Kanehsatake - 270 Years of Resistance

Watch on the National Film Board Website!
Item Type: Documentary Film (1993)
Runtime: 1:59:24
Directed by Alanis Obamsawin
Source: National Film Board - https://www.nfb.ca/film/kanehsatake_270_years_of_resistance/
This documentary film compiles the only footage behind Mohawk lines during the 1990 Oka Crisis: A 78 day military standoff between the Kanien’kéhaka (Mohawk) of Kanehsatake and the Canadian Armed forces that resulted in the death of a Canadian police officer, 30 wounded Canadians and upwards of 75 wounded Mohawk nationals. It provides historical context for Kanien’kéhaka land claims and the inciting events leading directly into the land dispute with the city of Oka, QC over the extension of a golf course into Kanien’kéhaka burial grounds.

Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance, Alanis Obomsawin, provided by the National Film Board of Canada
